Franz Kline (May 23, 1910 – May 13, 1962)

Kline is well-known Abstract Expressionist, whose style consisted predominately of black strokes on a white canvas (a style de Kooning had helped Kline find). But Kline's earlier period was dominated by a very vivid Expressionism, which two of the three paintings below evince.
