William Holman Hunt (April 2, 1827 – September 7, 1910)

The Light of the World
1851-1853

Extremely symbolic, beautiful and deeply religious paintings made by the hand of William Holman Hunt. When I was younger, I thought the Pre-Raphaelites were talented, but not great, because in their style I found what I thought to be a dryness relative to the revolutions of 19th century painting. Today I look at these paintings with awe, because it's in their ideal romanticism that I find a terrible beauty and revolution.
