Mikhail Vrubel (March 17, 1856 - April 14, 1910)

Vrubel, even among the already strongly experimental Symbolist movement, stood out as a painter of extreme stylistic novelty. Out of all the many talented Russian artists, he is by far my favorite. And his most famous painting is Demon Sitting, which, like it's sibling above it, was derived from an epic poem, The Demon, by Lermentov.
